Type of roomsAt the moment we have about 1000 rooms for international students. These rooms are located in several buildings. There are parking lots at all the buildings. We advise you to lock your car and not to leave any valuable things in it. All rooms are equipped with the following items:
Generally there are two types of rooms:
The rooms with private facilities are all situated in the Bornsesteeg. Aside from the basic inventory mentioned above, all these rooms have their own kitchen with a hot plate as cooking facility. Other kitchen items are not present. Some rooms also have their own shower and toilet. Rooms with private facilities are situated in two types of corridors; fully international or mixed corridors with half international students and half Dutch students. Fully international corridors At the fully international corridors you will find a washing machine, refrigerator and in some cases a grill/oven. The cleaning of the corridor and all the common spaces (shower and toilet) is done by a professional cleaning company. ROOMS WITH SHARED FACILITIES The rooms with shared facilities are spread out over several buildings. If you have a room with shared facilities, you share a toilet, shower and kitchen with other tenants (both male and female) at your corridor. Generally there is a common kitchen at the corridor where you can eat and drink together. Students normally take turns cooking. If you do not wish to share a meal with your fellow students or if you do not or cannot eat certain foods, feel free to tell your fellow students. They will certainly comply with your eating habits. The rooms are situated in two types of corridors; fully international or mixed corridors with a majority of Dutch students. Fully international corridors These 22 corridors are equipped with a washing machine, refrigerator, coker, stove, colour TV, kitchen furniture and phone. Kitchen items, such as pots, pans, plates, cutlery, etc, are not present. The tenants clean the corridor themselves. Corridors with a majority of Dutch students Most of the rooms are situated at corridors with mostly Dutch tenants. The common kitchens are furnished, partly by Idealis and partly by the tenants themselves; the students usually add items such as a TV or washing machine. The cleaning is coordinated by the corridor representative. Every tenant is expected to regularly clean the common spaces. ACCOMMODATIONS FOR COUPLES AND FAMILIES We feel it is necessary to warn international students that most of the housing facilities at Idealis are not suitable for couples or families. Idealis rooms are meant for one-person occupancy only. The Dutch law regulates this, also because of security reasons. Therefore our main target group consists of single students. We emphasize that it is not allowed to reside in an Idealis room with another person. For international PhD students graduating at Wageningen UR who want to come to Wageningen with his or her international partner, it is possible to apply for a so-called 'combi-apartment' at the building Bornsesteeg. A combi-apartment is only suitable for two people. Children are not permitted. If you wish to be placed on the waiting list for a combi-apartment, please check Student Service Centre at 'Questions & Answerd' on www.ssc.wur.nl/uk. If you are an AIO- or PhD-student, you can apply for our apartment buildings called Boomgaarden and Nobelweg. These buildings are suitable for couples and families. We also have a few accommodations especially for couples with children. To apply you can register yourself on our website and respond to the accommodations we offer online. Please take into consideration that the waiting time is long because the supply is limited. It may take 1-2 years before we can offer you proper housing. Until that time you will have to make other arrangements for your partner and child(ren) outside of Idealis. The only other housing corporation in Wageningen, De Woningstichting, also offers accommodations for couples and families. You can contact them at info@dewoningstichting.nl. OTHER FACILITIES Every building has special facilities for bicycles. Some of the buildings also have their own pub that is frequented daily by a great number of students and can be used for parties or other social meetings. There also is a committee to organise recreational activities for the building. For example; track & field day, parties, disco and movie showings. PREFERENCES If you are coming to the Netherlands to study and you reserve a room you can indicate your preference for the type of room (private facilities or shared facilities) and/or type of corridor (international or mixed) to the Student Service Centre of Wageningen UR. Idealis tries to take into account your preference as much as possible. We can, however, not garantuee that we can give you the room requested. This depends on the number of applications and the number of rooms available. |
