Bike Removal Campaign 2012
|
The caretakers regularly remove bicycle wrecks from the bicycle shed. These bicycles take up space in the sheds that other Idealis tenants need. Some tenants that move out of a complex do not always take their bikes with them because, for example, they are going abroad or the bikes are in such poor condition that they are no longer usable. These bicycles remain behind and belong to no one. The bike racks are often overcrowded and Idealis receives complaints from tenants that there is not enough room in the bike sheds.
Idealis takes a structural approach to this problem. The caretaker will regularly check the bike sheds and make arrangements to remove wrecks and bikes in poor condition. The wrecks will be removed from the premises right away; bikes in poor condition will be stored somewhere on the premises for three months. Tenants who are missing their bikes should report this to the caretaker. If the caretaker has put the bike in storage, you can retrieve it. Our experience is that tenants seldom report their bikes missing. If the caretaker is in doubt about whether a particular bike is in poor condition, he will not remove it. If the same bike is still in the same or worse condition during the next inspection, the caretaker will remove it. Bikes that we consider wrecks or in poor condition/unused. A wreck is a bicycle that has essential parts missing or broken: e.g. a broken front or rear wheel, two flat tires or no saddle. The cost of repairing such bikes is higher than the value of the bike. The bike is clearly in too poor condition to ride. A bike in poor condition, for example, is one with a flat tire, rusty chain or covered with a thick layer of dirt. It is visually clear that the bike has not been used for some time. The purpose of this clean-up campaign is to create sufficient space in the bike sheds for bicycles that are being used. If you are missing a bike, you can check whether a bike-removal round has taken place in your complex; you can then ask the caretaker whether he removed your bike.
