Burglary prevention

A stranger rummaging through your things is naturally something that nobody wants. Make sure then that you do not give burglars any opportunity. The majority of break-ins (around 90%) are committed by 'opportunist thieves'. The opportunist thief works with small tools: pliers, a tyre lever, or a screwdriver. He does not plan his work but instead acts when he sees an opportunity wherever it can be assumed there is something worth taking. Then it's just a matter of one thing: seizing his opportunity quickly.

It is therefore important to ensure that you do not make it easy for a burglar. Alert the police immediately if you see something suspicious. Do not leave (room) doors or windows open; even if you are only out for a moment. Never leave your keys in the lock. Make sure no valuable items can be seen from outside. Keep the corridor doors closed and do not let strangers in.

What can you do yourself?

Record your possessions
Make sure that you are always in a position to give a good description of your property. Register your valuable items; this increases the chance of getting back your possessions should they be stolen. In addition you can also make a unique identifying mark on your valuable things (e.g. postal code and house number). Photographing them is also a possibility. Lay a tape measure next to the item - this makes it easier to determine the size of the object. Always report any cases of theft to the police!

Contents insurance
In order to be insured against theft, it is important that you take out adequate contents insurance.
