Welcome to the Bornsesteeg

Caretaker
The caretaker is responsible for the daily routine and is the first person to address if you have questions or (maintenance) problems. His office hours are Monday - Wednesday from 8.00 - 8.30. During the rest of the week, on weekdays, a sign on his door will indicate if he is in or out. If he is in, you can walk in and consult him. The caretaker's office is located downstairs. You can also reach him by by phone and by e-mail.

Building chairperson and corridor representative
In theory, each corridor has a representative and every building a building chairperson. The building representatives form the tenant organisation SFO and promote the interests of the tenants as a whole. If you have any questions, problems or suggestions concerning your housing, you can contact your corridor representative or your building chairperson. The name and address of the building chairperson can be found on the bulletin board in the lobby of your building.

Internetconnection
Every room has a high-speed Internet connections (free of charge).

Bicycles and motorcycle sheds
Aside from the open bicycle shed, there is a lockable shed underneath the building. You can get access with your corridor key. You can also stall your bicycle in the bicycle lock-up. You can ask the caretaker for a key. There is also a motorcycle shed on the side of the building. You have to contact the caretaker to get a key for this shed.

Parking
Cars can be parked near the building. You are not allowed to park in front of the building because the driveway has to remain accessible for the ambulance and fire brigade.

Washing machine
All corridors in the A-wing have an Idealis-washing machine. All corridors in the B- and C-wing will also receive a washing machine once the majority of the corridor consists of international students. Idealis is also responsible for the technical maintenance.

Cleaning of the corridor
The corridors with eight of more international students will be cleaned by Idealis. The cleaning programm consists of cleaning the showers, toilets and floorcover in frond of the corridor twice a week.

The common shower
The common shower has a thermostatically controlled tap. You can choose your preferred temperature on one side of the tap. The other side of the tap controls the amount of water you want to use. The showers in the self-contained rooms have regular taps. Please remove your hair from the sink and throw it in the dustbin to prevent obstruction.

Waste paper
Waste paper is collected every Tuesday morning. Please bundle it or put it in boxes and leave it inside the entrance door of your corridor before 8.00 o'clock.

Refuse
Refuse is collected every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Please tie up the KOMO refuse bags and leave them inside the entrance door of your corridor before 8.00 o'clock. You can put organic waste and glass in the refuse containers outside the building. See also the poster about garbage. For chemical waste and bulk waste please check the refuse calendar of the City Council of Wageningen.

Spare key
You can buy an extra corridor key from the caretaker; you will need to identify yourself. This key may not be used to allow someone else into your room to live (with you).

The furniture
Your room is furnished with a bed, desk, chair and wardrobe. Curtains and mattress are also supplied. All of these items are part of the inventory and must be left behind when you vacate the room. The furniture in your room has been designed for mobility and sturdiness. The cupboard and filing cabinet have wheels, so that they can be easily moved. The bookshelves and the bulletin board can be moved up and down the rail to the desired area. The desk is designed for right and left handed people. You can loosen the screws with a coin and easily flip the top. The bed has a small locker.

Service set
When you arrive in your room you will find a service set containing a packet of bed linen: a duvet, a duvet cover, pillow, pillowcase and mattress sheet. Take them with you when you leave.

Radiator
In your room there is a radiator with a thermostatically controlled tap. The numbers indicate the heat: a high number indicates a high temperature. The central heating of the building is turned down between 23.00 at night and 6.00 in the morning.

Cooking device
In your room you will find an electric cooking device. The numbers on the control buttons indicate the heat: a high number (3) indicates high temperature. The electric cooking device needs time to warm up and cool down, so be careful after you have cooked your meal.

Sink
The sink and the drain pit have to be cleaned regularly to prevent blockage of the drainpipe. Please do not throw food remains or refuse down the drain!

Fire detector
Every corridor has a smoke detector. Make sure that the batteries are replaced regularly, new batteries can be obtained from the caretaker for free.

Corridor checks
The caretaker checks the corridors to make sure the following items are in order:
  • Fire safety
This includes free passage through escape-routes such as corridors and stairwells. Other fire-safety items, for example, could be 'suspended', self-installed, inferior electricity cables on the ceiling or loose-lying cables on the floors, along with other highly inflammable items such as posters and flags on ceilings and/or light fittings. Extinguishing resources and emergency light fittings should be clearly visible. You can find more information and tips at the website under the heading 'i am a tenant/safe housing/fire safety.
  • >Damages and maintenance
It is not permitted to damage or paint any part of the construction of the building or Idealis inventory.
  • Cleaning
This means proper cleaning of the kitchen, bathroom, storeroom, laundry room and corridor.
If the caretaker determines that something is not in order at your corridor, he will leave a list on which it is noted and the request to have it fixed and/or cleaned before a certain date. He will then come by on said date to make sure that the tenants of the corridor have done what they were asked to do.

WE WISH YOU A PLEASANT STAY AT THE BORNSESTEEG!
