Welcome to Walstraat

This information sheet offers practical information about the Walstraat.

The caretaker
Mr H. Hommersom is the caretaker of the Walstraat. He is responsible for the proper course of events in the building and is the first contact for questions or (maintenance) complaints. You can visit the caretaker Wednesdays between 8.00 and 8.30 a.m. You can also ring him at (06) 53 64 36 01 or e-mail him at hhommersom@idealis.nl. If you wish to report a request for repairs, deposit the appropriate card in the caretaker's letterbox at your complex building.

The internet
The Walstraat is not connected to the university's glass-fibre network (HomeWURk) However, it is possible to install an ADSL connection. As a student of Wageningen UR, you can receive a subsidy from the university.

Bicycle shed
There is a lockable bicycle shed at the building, which can be opened with the corridor key.

Parking
Parking space for cars is available at the building. At the entrance of the parking area at Walstraat, a pole has been placed so only Walstraat tenants can get access to the parking area. You can apply for a remote control for this pole at Housing Services of Idealis

Old paper
Place old paper, tied in bundles or in boxes, at the designated place in the bike shed. Only full boxes will be collected.

Household refuse
The household refuse will not be collected at the corridor. You can deposit household refuse in the refuse containers at the parking lot of the flat. Also, see the Idealis refuse poster. Consult the collection calendar of the municipality of Wageningen for removal of chemical waste and bulky household waste.

Keys
New tenants receive a set of keys from the caretaker. These include a key for your corridor door, your room and your letterbox. You can purchase an extra corridor door key from the caretaker. You must provide proof of identity. You may not use the key to allow someone else to live (with you) in your room. When you cancel your accommodation and leave it behind, you have to turn in the keys at the Idealis office at Duivendaal 1. When you turn in the keys outside the office hours, you can deposit them in the key box at the right side of the office entrance.

Corridor inspections
Inspections of the corridors take place at least twice a year. The caretaker checks for:
  • Fire safety
This includes free passage through escape-routes such as corridors, (emergency) stairwells, walkways and balconies. Other fire-safety items, for example, could be 'suspended', self-installed, inferior electricity cables on the ceiling or loose-lying cables on the floors, along with other highly inflammable items such as posters and flags on ceilings and/or light fittings. Extinguishing resources and emergency light fittings should be clearly visible. You can find more information and tips at the website under the heading je huurt/brandveiligheid (tenants/fire safety).
  • Damage/maintenance defects
This includes repairs to, replacement of and painting of structural corridors in the common spaces or the Idealis fixtures and fittings.
  • Cleaning inspections
This refers to general cleaning of the kitchen, sanitary rooms, washhouses, storerooms and corridors.
Cooptation
At this building, cooptation is applied. If a room becomes available, tenants can nominate their new house mate themselves. When no one is nominated within seven workingdays after the notice of termination date, the room shall be offered via the website, according to the offer model. The nominated tenant has to meet the registration conditions.

Demolition
Idealis expects to demolish the complex building in about a couple of years. When signing the tenancy agreement a clause concerning the demolition is included.

If the caretaker finds that certain things are not in order (not clean or damaged), he will leave behind a form on which he will note when these have to be cleaned and/or repaired. He will return to the corridor to make sure this has been done.

WE WISH YOU A PLESANT STAY AT THE WALSTRAAT!
