Mansholtlaan

At the new Campus East of Wageningen University and Research (WUR), Idealis is developing 254 new student housing units. The new part of the campus will accommodate modern buildings for education, science and student housing. This mix of functions will also contribute well to the liveliness and livability of the area.

The location

The exact location where the project will be realized is Mansholtlaan 4 in Wageningen. Mansholtlaan is an important traffic route to Wageningen. This location first housed an old residence and a small office building, which were demolished in late 2024 to make room for our total of 254 new student housing units.

New building is link in the area

Because of the location of the site, Idealis' plan forms the link between the existing buildings along Grintweg and the new Campus East. Because the new campus consists of large utilitarian buildings, an aesthetically pleasing façade structure was sought that would help connect the two areas. In addition, a wooded embankment will be constructed between Idealis' plan and the homes along Grintweg, providing privacy and protection but also a natural connection to the existing green structures.

Nature and climate

The ambitions in Wageningen are high when it comes to preserving and protecting our nature. Our plans give substance to this by creating breeding and nesting places in the facades for both birds and bats. Green roofs will also be constructed to provide nourishment and delayed rainwater runoff. The garden around the building will be landscaped with plantings that bloom throughout the year which is important to provide adequate food for butterflies and bees. Fruit trees will also be planted that "benefit" both animals and students. Through this mix of measures, the plan not only provides necessary student housing, but also helps to preserve and protect our natural environment.

Planning

The execution started at the end of 2024 with the demolition and preparation of the site. Construction began in May 2025, and if everything goes according to plan, the houses can be occupied for the 2026-2027 academic year.

Project Team

The project was initiated by Idealis and is also being developed by Idealis. The design of the houses was created by Moke Architecten, and the landscape for the garden by LOOS van VLIET. The contractor responsible for the construction is Van Wijnen Arnhem. Together, these parties form the project team that is realizing the student housing.
