On October 1, 350 students were able to move into the newly built complex at Marijkeweg 20. The complex was purchased by DUWO and is rented and managed by Idealis. Construction was realized by Plegt-Vos and ter Steege Bouw Vastgoed.

Cooperation
What makes this student complex special is the cooperation between fellow student housing providers DUWO and Idealis. Linda Cents, location director DUWO Amsterdam: “We are extremely proud of this cooperation with Idealis. As two student housing providers with a shared mission, together we can do much more for the student population. By joining forces through this special collaboration, we can make optimal use of each other's expertise and network. DUWO deploys its resources to realize the required housing, while Idealis, with their knowledge of the local market, provides management and day-to-day guidance.”

Bart van As, director-administrator of Idealis concurs. “I am pleased that we can offer additional rooms, which are badly needed to meet demand. This enables us to realize our goal that all first-year students registered with ROOM for a room in Wageningen or Ede have a room before May 1 of the respective academic year.
Given our financial capacity, it was not possible to realize this complex ourselves. I therefore find the solidarity between corporations to realize challenges together a beautiful development within the sector.”

About the complex
The Marijkeweg 20 complex consists of 140 independent rooms with their own kitchenette and bathroom of approximately 24m2. In addition, there are 210 non-self-contained rooms of approximately 18m², each with its own kitchenette with sink, own sanitary facilities and access to a large shared living kitchen. That shared kitchen provides additional opportunities for meeting and contact, which is why these rooms are in high demand: roommates, sociability and mutual support contribute to social cohesion and a real sense of home. Especially for freshmen, this is very pleasant.

The complex also has two large and a small meeting room, a communal courtyard garden, a laundry room and a bicycle shed. The rooms have PVC flooring. The building is sustainably heated and cooled thanks to a CHP system, and energy is largely generated by solar panels.

Marijkeweg 20 complies with the 2023-2026 performance agreements with the municipality, which stipulate that new construction projects must include 40% independent living units and 60% non-independent living units. This helps to promote a diverse supply of housing.
