Start renovation sterflat Asserpark: we make history futureproof

Reading time: 3 min

Idealis will renovate the starflat building Asserpark. Large-scale maintenance, increased sustainability and more opportunities for meetings are central to the project. This will make Asserpark ready for the future! Contractor Coen Hagedoorn will start the preparatory work in May 2025 and the renovation will begin in August 2025. Today - in the presence of Anne Janssen - the construction sign was unveiled. Two tenants dismantled a kitchen cabinet together with Bart van As (director of Idealis) and Luuc Rutgers (deputy director processes of Coen Hagedoorn). A symbolic kickoff for the start of the renovation.

Making Asserpark ready for the future
Idealis is constantly working to improve its housing stock. In the coming years, Idealis will focus on improving the quality of its older complexes. The first step will be to renovate the Asserpark complex. More space for meeting people, sustainable living and a new layout of the first floor are important spearheads of the renovation. There will be a large communal space at the entrance and all corridors will have a communal kitchen. In addition, sustainability and energy efficiency are important themes in the renovation. The goal is to greatly reduce energy consumption and minimize the use of fossil fuels.

For this, among other things, a new well-insulated facade will be installed against the existing masonry, made of a durable composite wood cladding. The first floor of Asserpark is going to look completely different. Both in the building itself and the outside area. The entrance will be moved to the parking lot side and the current parking lot will be reduced in size.

Bart van As: 'Our current business plan focuses on a different quality, for a different future. The renovation of Asserpark shows how Idealis envisions that other quality. We look forward to making one of the star flats, an icon of Wageningen, ready for the future, so that hopefully many more students will enjoy living at Asserpark.

Luuc Rutgers: 'We are proud to realize the complete renovation of one of Wageningen's star flats. After thorough research and going through various scenarios, Idealis has chosen a future-proof approach. In addition to renovating the building, the grounds will also be made more sustainable. Together we are building the future of Wageningen student housing!

The work will be carried out after the residents have temporarily moved out.
All residents will therefore move out (temporarily) by July 31, 2025. More than 70% of the tenants have agreed to the renovation and social plan. The occupants who are entitled to a change room will be assisted by Idealis in finding a comparable room. In addition, they will have the opportunity to return to Asserpark after the renovation is completed.
